Only Today 1.42 - Magic Number
The holy mystic says, “you must make certain to do all you can today and not postpone anything until tomorrow, for you may have no tomorrow at all.” We often prefer not to think about the fact that we don’t know when this important gift of life will evaporate. In life coaching there’s a great question, which we could nickname the Magic Number Question. If you knew you only had one year to live, how would things change? If you knew you only had five years to live, how would things change? If you knew you only had 10 years to live, how would things change?
One way to interpret his words is that the idea of having “no tomorrow” means realizing that this life will not last forever. We can’t just put choices and decisions into the great fog of the future “the tomorrow”. What is your magic number where you realize you don’t have tomorrow and you need to act today decisively, bravely and courageously?
What is the magic number that is not too far away that it becomes not real and relevant and what is too close that you can’t plan because all you’re thinking about is saying your goodbyes and having a fulfilling time? My wife and I talked about it and for her it was three years. For me, I would say it’s about five.
